On Thursday 27th June, 6 Business and Economics students set off for the National Final of the ICEAW BASE competition, after winning the Regional Heat.  This took place at the prestigious Hilton Metropol near Birmingham Airport.

They arrived at 9am for breakfast, before the competition began. The team were provided with another ‘real life’ case study that outlined a business’s financial situation.  They had to take on the role of Charted Accountants whereby they needed analyse the financial position of the business and recommend strategies for the firm that would enable it to increase sales turnover and reduce costs, thereby increasing profit levels. They delivered their findings through an eight minute presentation, in front of a board of judges

Although the girls did not win the National Final, they did extremely well and gained many invaluable skills of being able to talk in public and work under pressure.  One of the major highlights of the event was the 3 course evening meal they were treated to, followed by some dancing.
